Common Queries
Do you offer sliding scale rates?
I do my best to provide services to individuals who experience severe barriers to accessing therapy. In order to provide the most people with access, reduced fees are offered on a 12-session basis, after which, reevaluation and referral takes place so that the next individual on the waitlist can be helped. At this time, the my waitlist for sliding scale services is full.
How long does each therapy session take?
The typical length of an individual's therapy session is 45-50 minutes. However, some people prefer more time. I offer 50-minute and 75-minute sessions for individuals. For couples, EMDR, and Brainspotting, 75-minute sessions are strongly recommended.
What techniques do you use?
It is important that I use therapeutic modalities that are data-driven and non-oppressive. For talk therapy, I orient toward a Narrative Therapy approach with a focus on attachment. EMDR and Brainspotting are by far the most powerful tools for trauma treatment and identity clarity I have come across as a clinician. Most importantly, the tools I use with a client must match the client's needs, goals, and learning methods.
Therapy seems hard. How will I know I am ready?
Beginning the process of turning in toward yourself and facing all of the things you've perhaps learned to minimize can bring up a lot of feelings. Some people feel the responsibility to be ready for therapy. The truth is, there is nothing you need to do, read, or learn before beginning your therapeutic journey that. A skilled therapist will be able to provide assessment and treatment in a collaborative manner; one which heeds the known or unknown wisdom you have about yourself in combination with their clinical skills.
