Deeper Routes

Hello.  My name is Maria Marcelin.  I'm a therapist, educator, coach, consultant, and fellow human.  I specialize in helping people improve relationships and communication, process and overcome trauma, and establish healthier goals and boundaries.  My aim is to help my clients feel understood and supported within a safe and healing space as we explore their stories and experiences.  Together, utilizing talk therapy, Brainspotting, and/or EMDR, we collaboratively attend to unhealed wounds, thereby further developing an understanding of our needs, and refine methods for getting those needs expressed and met.   I feel honoured to hold space for clients as they notice themselves and gain more fluency in their processes.  

I happen to work with many fish out of water types: people of mixed identities or heritages; Third Culture Kids; individuals contending with newly emerging facets of their sexuality or gender; refugees and their descendants; those who hare questioning or have left their religious affiliation; digital nomads; individuals who are transitioning into or out of lifestyles of notoriety or fame; and individuals who are contending with having differentiated greatly from their families or cultures of origin.  

I also work with couples and relationship systems of nearly every form.  An important part of my work is supporting primary attachments in adulthood.  I am trained to Level II in the Gottman Method of couples counseling and enjoy working with both "traditional" and "nontraditional" relationship structures, adapting it to better suit  members of the polyamourous, LGBTQIA+, and kink communities where needed.
